What makes a plumbing quote fair?

A fair plumbing or repipe quote isn't just about the bottom-line number — it's about what that number actually includes. Two estimates for the same whole-house repipe can differ by thousands of dollars simply because one leaves out the permit, the drywall restoration, or the warranty. Before you compare prices, make sure you're comparing the same scope.

The price should include the whole job

For a whole-house repipe, sewer repipe, water service line, water heater, or gas line, a complete quote should spell out the material and grade (PEX type A/B or copper M/L/K), the number of fixtures or bathrooms, the permit, inspection, drywall patch and texture, and a written warranty. "Patch only" with no texture, a missing permit line, or a vague "TBD" allowance are the most common ways a low headline price turns into a higher final bill.

Watch out for quotes that look too low

A suspiciously low quote often signals skipped permits, thinner materials, or change-order surprises once the walls are open. A fair price sits within the normal market range for your scope — not far above it, and not far below it. That's exactly what this tool helps you see.
