Serving all 15 cities and communities across Alameda County -- permitted repipes, PEX 25-year / copper 30-year warranty.
Alameda County stretches from the Oakland waterfront to the Tri-Valley interior, encompassing one of the most diverse housing inventories in the Bay Area. The county's western cities -- Oakland, Berkeley, Alameda, and Piedmont -- contain some of the oldest residential plumbing stock in Northern California, with homes from the 1910s through 1940s whose original galvanized steel pipes have been failing for decades. The flatland cities of Hayward, San Leandro, and Fremont represent the postwar era, with galvanized systems from the 1950s and 60s now at or past their expected lifespan.
Repipe Champions serves all 15 cities and communities throughout Alameda County. Our East Bay crews are experienced with the county's extraordinary range of housing types -- from century-old Craftsman bungalows in Berkeley and Oakland to tract ranch homes in Hayward and Fremont to newer planned communities in Dublin and Pleasanton. Every repipe we complete is permitted, inspected, and backed by our 30-year parts and labor warranty.
Two Alameda County communities -- Castro Valley and San Lorenzo -- are unincorporated. Their permits are issued through Alameda County Building Services rather than a city building department. Repipe Champions handles this process on your behalf regardless of whether your community is incorporated or unincorporated.

(510) 340-4443Alameda County has one of the widest ranges of housing ages in the entire Bay Area, from pre-earthquake Victorian homes in Oakland to brand-new construction in Dublin. The plumbing challenges vary dramatically depending on the era your home was built.
The oldest homes in Alameda County are concentrated in Oakland, Berkeley, Piedmont, and the island city of Alameda. Many of these homes were built between 1900 and 1940 using galvanized steel supply lines and cast iron drain pipes. At 80 to 120 years old, these systems are extremely degraded. Homeowners frequently report water that runs brown for extended periods, water pressure so low that only one fixture can run at a time, and visible corrosion at pipe joints. In many cases, the internal diameter of the galvanized pipe has narrowed to a fraction of its original size due to decades of mineral and rust accumulation. These homes represent the highest-urgency repipe candidates in the county.
The postwar housing boom brought thousands of tract homes to the flatland cities of Alameda County. Hayward, San Leandro, Fremont, Newark, Union City, and the unincorporated community of San Lorenzo were developed primarily between 1945 and 1970 with galvanized steel plumbing. These systems are now 55 to 80 years old -- well past their expected 40-to-50-year lifespan. Homeowners in these communities typically experience the classic galvanized failure progression: discolored water, then pressure loss, then pinhole leaks, then eventually a burst pipe or slab leak.
Homes built during the 1970s through 1990s in the Tri-Valley cities and eastern Alameda County were typically plumbed with copper. While copper is more durable than galvanized steel, the East Bay's moderately hard water (averaging 8 to 14 grains per gallon depending on the water source) can cause pitting corrosion in copper pipes over several decades. Slab leaks in copper systems are particularly common in Pleasanton and Livermore ranch-style homes built on concrete slab foundations in the 1970s and 1980s.
Newer homes in Dublin, Pleasanton, and Livermore built after 2000 generally have PEX or modern copper systems that are not yet candidates for repiping. However, some homes from the late 1990s and early 2000s may contain Kitec plumbing -- a composite pipe material subject to a class-action settlement due to premature failure of its brass fittings. If your home has orange or blue flexible piping with brass fittings stamped "Kitec" or "IPEX," contact us for a free assessment.
Alameda County's water supply is managed by multiple agencies depending on location. The East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) serves Oakland, Berkeley, Piedmont, Alameda, San Leandro, Hayward, Castro Valley, San Lorenzo, Fremont, Newark, and Union City. The Zone 7 Water Agency supplies Dublin, Pleasanton, and Livermore through local retailers.
EBMUD water is sourced primarily from the Mokelumne River in the Sierra Nevada and is generally soft to moderately soft (3 to 8 grains per gallon). However, even soft water contains dissolved oxygen and chloramine disinfectant, both of which contribute to galvanized steel corrosion over time. The fact that EBMUD water is relatively soft means that galvanized pipes in the EBMUD service area corrode differently than in harder-water regions -- less mineral scale buildup, but more direct oxidation of the pipe walls.
Zone 7 water in the Tri-Valley is harder (10 to 16 grains per gallon) due to its groundwater blend. This harder water accelerates mineral accumulation inside both galvanized steel and copper pipes. Homeowners in Dublin, Pleasanton, and Livermore with copper plumbing from the 1970s and 1980s are more likely to experience pitting corrosion and slab leaks than those in the softer-water EBMUD service area.
Repiping with Uponor PEX-A eliminates all water-chemistry interactions. PEX is chemically inert -- it does not corrode, scale, or pit regardless of water hardness, chloramine levels, or pH.
