Serving all 12 cities across San Mateo County -- permitted repipes, PEX 25-year / copper 30-year warranty.
San Mateo County is the Bay Area's mid-Peninsula corridor -- a string of established communities running from Daly City at the San Francisco border to Menlo Park at the Santa Clara County line. The county's residential housing stock is heavily concentrated in the postwar era, with the bulk of its homes built between 1940 and 1970. Those homes were built with galvanized steel plumbing that is now 55 to 85 years old and actively failing throughout the county.
Repipe Champions has a dedicated San Mateo County office at 3 E 3rd Ave, Suite 200, San Mateo, CA 94401. We are your local Peninsula repipe specialists -- not a company dispatching from across the Bay. Our crews know the Peninsula's varied housing types, from the tightly packed postwar tracts of Daly City and Millbrae to the gracious older homes of Burlingame and Menlo Park.
Every San Mateo County repipe we complete is fully permitted through the appropriate city building department, inspected by a licensed inspector, and backed by our 30-year parts and labor warranty. We handle all permitting on your behalf at no additional cost.

(650) 649-5458San Mateo County's housing stock is remarkably concentrated in a single construction era -- the vast majority of homes on the Peninsula were built between 1940 and 1970. This means the county has a very high proportion of galvanized steel plumbing, all of it now well past its expected lifespan.
The cities of Daly City, South San Francisco, San Bruno, Millbrae, Burlingame, San Mateo, and Redwood City were substantially developed between 1940 and 1965. Nearly all of these homes were built with galvanized steel water supply lines -- a material with a 40-to-50-year lifespan that is now 60 to 85 years old across the county. The classic signs of galvanized pipe failure are pervasive on the Peninsula: rust-colored water when you first turn on a faucet, reduced water pressure at second-floor fixtures, pinhole leaks at pipe elbows and joints, and recurring repairs that never seem to solve the underlying problem. The Westborough neighborhood in South San Francisco, the Mills Estates area of Millbrae, and the Baywood Park neighborhood of San Mateo are particularly dense concentrations of homes with failing galvanized systems.
The most established neighborhoods in Burlingame, San Mateo, Menlo Park, and Redwood City have homes dating back to the 1920s and 1930s. These homes often have a combination of galvanized steel supply lines and cast iron drain lines, both of which are now approaching or exceeding 100 years old. The galvanized supply pipes in these homes are frequently so corroded that the internal diameter is reduced to a fraction of its original size. Some homeowners discover during repiping that their original galvanized pipes have less than a quarter-inch of open passage remaining where the original diameter was three-quarters of an inch.
Foster City was largely developed in the late 1960s and 1970s on reclaimed bay fill. Most Foster City homes have copper plumbing that is now 45 to 55 years old. While copper is more durable than galvanized steel, Foster City's unique bayside location and the Peninsula's moderately hard water contribute to copper pipe degradation over time. Belmont and San Carlos also have significant copper-era housing from the 1970s through 1990s. Homes in these communities with original copper systems may begin experiencing slab leaks or pinhole leaks at pipe joints and elbows as the copper approaches 50 years of age.
San Mateo County's water supply comes from a blend of sources managed by multiple local water agencies. The northern Peninsula cities (Daly City, South San Francisco, San Bruno) receive water primarily from the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC), sourced from the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir in the Sierra Nevada. This is some of the softest, highest-quality municipal water in California.
Mid-Peninsula cities (San Mateo, Burlingame, Millbrae, Foster City, Belmont, San Carlos, Redwood City) are served by CalWater or local municipal utilities that blend Hetch Hetchy water with treated local groundwater. The groundwater component increases water hardness to moderate levels (8 to 14 grains per gallon), which accelerates mineral buildup inside aging galvanized steel and promotes pitting corrosion in copper.
Menlo Park and East Palo Alto at the southern end of the county are served by different water districts with varying hardness levels. Regardless of the specific water chemistry in your neighborhood, the fundamental problem remains the same: chloramine-treated water flowing through corroding galvanized steel or aging copper degrades water quality and accelerates pipe deterioration. Repiping with PEX-A eliminates these interactions entirely.
