Serving all 24 cities and districts across Santa Clara County -- permitted repipes, PEX 25-year / copper 30-year warranty.
Santa Clara County is the heart of Silicon Valley -- and also home to one of the largest concentrations of aging residential plumbing in the Bay Area. The county's postwar housing boom produced hundreds of thousands of single-family homes between 1950 and 1980, the vast majority of which were built with galvanized steel pipe systems that are now 45 to 75 years old. Across every city from San Jose to Palo Alto, homeowners are dealing with the same systemic pipe failures: rust-colored water, pressure loss at multiple fixtures, and recurring leaks that keep coming back no matter how many individual sections are patched.
Repipe Champions was founded in Santa Clara County and has been repiping homes here since 2019. Our Santa Clara headquarters at 650 Nuttman St, Ste 113, Santa Clara, CA 95054 is the base for our Silicon Valley operations. We serve all 24 cities and districts throughout the county, from the dense neighborhoods of San Jose to the hillside estates of Los Altos Hills and Saratoga.
As a repipe-only specialist, we deliver whole-house repipes up to 50% faster and more affordably than a general plumber. Every repipe we complete is permitted, inspected, and backed by our 30-year parts and labor warranty.

(408) 295-4309The type of plumbing failure you are experiencing depends almost entirely on when your home was built. Santa Clara County's residential housing spans several distinct construction eras, each with its own characteristic pipe material and failure pattern.
The majority of homes built in San Jose, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, Mountain View, and Campbell before 1970 were plumbed with galvanized steel pipe. This material has a functional lifespan of 40 to 50 years -- meaning every galvanized system in the county is now past its expected end of life. Galvanized steel corrodes from the inside out, gradually narrowing the pipe diameter until water flow becomes restricted. Homeowners typically notice brown or orange-tinted water when they first turn on a faucet in the morning, reduced water pressure throughout the house, and pinhole leaks that recur in different locations. Neighborhoods like Willow Glen, Rose Garden, West Sunnyvale, and Old Mountain View have particularly high concentrations of galvanized pipe failures because these areas were developed in the 1950s and 1960s.
Homes built during the 1970s through 1990s in communities like Milpitas, Evergreen, Blossom Hill, and parts of Cupertino were typically plumbed with copper. While copper is a more durable material than galvanized steel, it is not immune to failure. Santa Clara County's moderately hard water (averaging 10–15 grains per gallon depending on location) causes pitting corrosion in copper pipes over time. Copper repipes are less common than galvanized-to-PEX conversions, but homes with original copper from this era are now 30 to 55 years old and some are beginning to show slab leaks, pinhole leaks at elbows, and green corrosion staining at joints.
A small number of Santa Clara County homes -- primarily in newer developments in South San Jose, Gilroy, and Morgan Hill -- were built with polybutylene (PB) or CPVC pipe. Polybutylene was the subject of a major class-action settlement due to its tendency to fail without warning. If your home was built between 1978 and 1995 and has gray, blue, or black flexible piping at the water heater or under sinks, you may have polybutylene that should be proactively replaced before a catastrophic failure.
Santa Clara County receives its drinking water from a mix of local reservoirs, imported Hetch Hetchy water from the Sierra Nevada, and treated groundwater pumped from the Santa Clara Valley aquifer. The blended supply is treated by the Santa Clara Valley Water District (Valley Water) and distributed through individual city water utilities.
The county's water hardness varies significantly by location. Cities on the valley floor -- San Jose, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale -- typically receive harder groundwater-blended supplies averaging 12 to 17 grains per gallon. Foothill communities like Los Gatos, Saratoga, and Los Altos Hills receive softer reservoir-fed water. Hard water accelerates mineral buildup inside galvanized steel pipes and promotes pitting corrosion in copper, both of which shorten pipe lifespan and degrade water quality over time.
Additionally, the chloramine disinfectant used by Valley Water is more aggressive to aging pipe materials than traditional chlorine. For homeowners with galvanized steel pipes that are already corroding internally, chloramine can accelerate the degradation process. Repiping with modern PEX-A tubing eliminates these water-quality interactions entirely -- PEX is chemically inert and unaffected by hard water, chloramine, or mineral content.
